Guy Mendelson, General Manager of Small Business Banking at Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ), is being questioned about misconduct at ANZ’s former car loan business Esanda, including dealers pumping up interest rates to get commissions and brokers swapping customer’s financial information with that of their guarantor to get loan approvals. 4.15 – The CEO of the Aboriginal Community Benefit Fund testifies at the Banking Royal Commission

Bryn Jones, the CEO of the provider of funeral insurance Aboriginal Community Benefit Fund (ACBF), is being questioned over ACBF falsely presenting itself as an indigenous corporation, aggressive selling and hawking almost exclusively to Aboriginal people, and his lack of qualifications to be CEO of an insurance company. 5.13 – The Head of Colonial First State testifies about Superannuation at the Banking Royal Commissi

Linda Elkins, executive general manager of Commonwealth Bank’s wealth management arm Colonial First State, returns to the Banking Royal Commission to be questioned over Colonial First State failing to move thousands of members from high-fee super funds into the low-fee MySuper regime by a government deadline as well as its superannuation trustee Avanteos Investments Limited (AIL) charging fees to the estates of dead people. 2.2 – Peter Kell, ASIC’s Deputy Chair Testifies at the Banking Royal Commission

Peter Kell, deputy chair of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), gives evidence on the financial advice industry, claiming that 90% of Australian financial advisers ignored clients’ best interests in a recent review. He states that the corporate regulator does not believe the financial advice industry is a “profession” yet because it has not reached the standards of a profession. Alexandra Gartmann, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of Rural Bank (an arm of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank), is being questioned over Rural Bank’s culture and structures in relation to approving loans and verifying the risk profile of customers. 4.8 – BankWest’s Head of Business Banking testifies at the Banking Royal Commission

Sinead Taylor, Executive Manager of Business Banking at BankWest (owned by Commonwealth Bank of Australia), is being questioned over a Bankwest manager inflating valuations, resulting in a Queensland cattle farmer being forced to sell his property. Peter Chun, general manager of distribution at Commonwealth Bank’s wealth management arm Colonial First State, is being questioned over the Commonwealth Essential Super product and its distribution, intrafund advice and revenue paid from the fund to the bank under a revenue-sharing agreement.
