A war services home in Colane Street, Concord West, June 1926. It could quite possibly be number 26 although many of the homes exhibit the early characteristics typical of the 1940s design. The original facia remains for many of the homesin this area with extensive modifications and vertical builds; the front sections often remain to navigate the build distance from the fence-line.
Colane Street sits nestled between Concord Road and Nullawarra Ave, a couple of minutes walk from Concord Hospital. The street sits very close to Parramatta River although the 'waterfront' nature of the area is limited by virtue of the inaccessibility to various ‘closed’ parks(part of the Dame Edith Estate). There is pressure on Government to release the valuable land to developers, but locals rightfully insist on preservation of the area in accordance with Edith's instructions.
