The Temperance and General Mutual Life Assurance building, designed by architect Alfred Dunnbuilt, was built in 1888 as the HQ of rapidly expanding company. The company moved to Collins Street in 1928, and the city purchased the building as offices to rent.
The building was demolished in 1974. The Swanson Street branch of the ANZ Bank sits a few doors down on the left.
