In 1882, Rudolph Caspers had bought land in Comur Street from the local Catholic church and built three shops with accommodation above.
Well known for his photography presence in Goulburn, Caspers opened a photography studio in his new building and leased the remaining two shops to Nichols the saddlers and the other to Edward Johnstone who opened a fruit, vegetable and tobacconist store.
The shops have changed ownership numerous times throughout the years, and occupancy has changed significantly, but the buildings stand today as a tribute to Yass' early development.
