R Caspers Buildings in Yass, New South Wales, c1888. The photo of the shops, from right to left, R. Caspers Photographer of Goulburn, the Tribune office and the Bank of New South Wales.
In 1882, Rudolph Caspers had bought land in Comur Street from the local Catholic church and built three shops with accommodation above. Well known for his photography presence in Goulburn, Caspers opened a photography studio in his new building and leased the remaining two shops to Nichols the saddlers and the other to Edward Johnstone who opened a fruit, vegetable and tobacconist store.
The shops have changed ownership numerous times throughout the years, and occupancy has changed significantly, but the buildings stand today as a tribute to Yass' early development.
