George Street, Sydney, 1900. The photograph is taken from an elevated scaffold near King Street looking south.
George Street is bustling with people and horse-drawn traffic. A wagon (or lorry) carrying wool bales towards Circular Quay can be seen in the lower right hand corner, other traffic includes a horse bus and a man on a bicycle. The building on the left bares the sign CE Robertson & Co. Booksellers and Stationers who were the leading stationers and booksellers of the day. The imposing building in the centre right is the Australian Bank of Commerce, built in 1884. The dome of the Queen Victoria Building can be seen further along the down the street.
