Instagram accepts up to 9 images when creating a post. Instagratify has the capacity to stitch up these images into an animated GIF for sharing on social media or other purposes. When multiple images are required to be sent to social, the standard has generally evolved into using a video since there's more options and the format is more widely accepted. Generally speaking, whenever a GIF is created, a video will also be created, and these are available in Yabber or via the 'Archive Post' sent to Vista (more on this confusing sentence shortly).
If your intention is to send the resulting animated GIF to social media, you should familiarise yourself with how the general Instagratify module functions. You may also be interested in how to send videos to social via Instagratify.
The resulting GIF animation will include a footer with your website URL (or other text). The time delay between each slide may be defined, as can the delay applied to the final slide before the animation repeats.
Vista: This article deals with creating the animated GIF via the Instagratify module, but the same process applied if you choose to create the GIF rom within Vista (Outlook-based Social Media scheduling tool).
Creating the Animated GIF
When you create an Instagram post you have the option of adding up to 10 images into an 'album'. The hashish of #gif
, when used in the post, will cause all the images to be sticked together in the order in which they were added to the post album, and the resulting GIF is then optionally sent to social media. Some social media networks do not support animated GIFs, so when this applies, a video will be sent instead.
LinkedIn: A former version of the LinkedIn API did not support animated GIFs, and the API limited the number of images to 9. With a recent update to the API, these limitations no longer applies. All images created in an Instagram post will now be sticked into the GIF although the system will generally send a video rather than a GIF because of platform suitability.
If you're unfamiliar with creating albums in Instagram, you will see a small 'album' icon after you've uploaded your first image. You should select that icon before selecting additional images that will be part of our animation. For the purpose of rationalising our video, and to ensure consistency, we should keep all images square.
We'll go ahead and add 10 images to our Instagram album.

The Result
In our case, the GIF was sent to Facebook, and a video was sent to LinkedIn. The result of each is shown below.

In both cases the footer was applied with our company name and web address. These values are defined in Social Settings.
GIF Size: The resulting GIF weights in at 3.7MB, while the video is barely 1MB. If you plan on using the GIF on your website directly we'd generally suggest the progressive-loading video format - a GIF is generally an inefficient image format.
A video will always be sent to you Google My Business and YouTube (if defined in the distribution).
Applying Slide Delay
You may alter the delay between slides with a hashtag as follows: #interval4
. The numeric value that follows the #interval
tag is the number of seconds between each image. By default we'll apply a 2.7 second delay after the completion of all slides before the cycle repeats itself, but you may alter this value in the same way by use of the hashtag @finaldelay5
(the same structure applies). Note that these values will be altered when the new Sendify version is released.
Use of interval
hashtags is generally advanced. In most cases you should be happy with the standard result.
Vista
As with a large number of the social and managed tools, your created GIF (and associated video and images) are optionally synced back to your Vista Social Media Calendar for archival purposes. You won't send this content back to any social platform, but instead simply keep the created assets as a backup.
