How to Create a Twitter X Application

It is highly unlikely that you will be required to create your own Twitter X Application, but if you're no longer using Yabber, or you're creating your own application for any reason, or you're looking to increase your standard Twitter post allowance (the only platform where we throttle posts), then this FAQ will become relevant.

Advertising: After Twitter suspended personal accounts for sharing a link to Washington Post Hunter Biden laptop story, we no longer have confidence in Twitter as a promoted advertising platform. Talk to us regarding options.

The following steps may change slightly over time. We'll make every effort to update the changes when they're identified, but the workflow should remain largely unchanged.

Yabber: Connecting to X from Yabber will enable all Twitter features. Again, this application registration process can be ignored unless we've had a conversion and decided it was necessary.

  1. developer.x.com

Navigate your way to developer.x.com . Ensure you are logged in with your parent company account via the top-right of the screen .

Twitter Dev Application

  2. Sign up to a Free Account

You will initially be signing up to a free account. A free account will more than support a small business with even 'moderate' Twitter interactions.

Sign up Free Account

Click 'Sign up for Free Account'. This will likely launch a new window.

  3. Terms and Use Case

You may be required to describe your use cases of Twitter data. In your own words, describe the purpose of the application you are building.

X Use Cases

Agree to the various terms after reading the associated policy, then click 'Submit'.

  4. The Dashboard

You will be presented with your developer dashboard. At this stage you may see a default application and nothing else.

X Dashboard

  5. Projects & Apps

Expand the 'Projects & Apps' menu item to the left of the dashboard. You can change the name, icon and other details on this page. In order to edit, you will be required to select the large 'Edit' text  above the logo (this will make fields writable).

Projects & Apps

  6. Keys and Tokens

Select the tab that says 'Keys and tokens'. This is important step and we're required to copy all keys exactly as they're presented to us. Ensure you save all keys to a text file the first time you see them as they may end up hidden forever.

Keys and Tokens

Never ever share your keys with anybody, and never make them visible in code. That said, it's perfectly safe to share them with us!

  7. User Authentication Settings

On the 'Settings' tab (next to the 'Keys and tokens' tab, scroll down a little to the 'User Authentication Settings'. Click 'Edit'.

Authentication Settings Edit

You may be shown a dialog box that says something similar to "Changing Permissions might affect your App ' as you navigate to the new screen. Click 'Yes'.

The returned screen will look a little like the following:

X Authentication Settings

Under 'App permissions' we'll select the highest level of access: 'Read and write and Direct message'. Check the 'Request email from users' toggle.

Under 'Type of App', select 'web App, Automated App or Bot'. This type of application is required because the application will work in the background at the server-level to perform various functions.

The Callback URI ? Redirect URL is required, and it's important. We've obfuscated it for the public screenshot but you will be provided with this information. Other fields are self-explanatory.

  Contact Us

You should now contact us with your keys. It's likely we'll have to make a few changes, but the early application setup will be complete.

Again, creating an application is something that you'll probably not have to do. When it is required we'll most likely create it on your behalf.

We've shared FAQs that showed you how to create Wistia video customisations, sharing profiles, turnstiles, and postroll CTA profiles (all linked below). This FAQ will show you how to update an individual video or all videos that are part of a project.

  About Wistia

Wistia is a third-party service that provides videos hosting for a monthly subscription. It is quite costly, but the platform does provide for three free videos and we encourage all our users to sign up for this offer.

Wistia provides a large number of integrated video features that enable far greater insights into video performance when compared to platforms such as YouTube, and the level of statistical data returned for each user is significant.

Yabber integrates with Wistia in such a way that we effectively emulate most features of that service. This tight level of connectivity enables features such as the email collection turnstiles (or email capture form 'gates' within a video) to be used for engagement and not just consumption.

This FAQ should be read in company with those listed below since when you're updating a video you'll generally update all of the profiles shown at the same time.

Wistia features may be referenced under this article in the 'Related FAQ' section.

Wistia: You may sign up for a free account on Wistia at Wistia.com . Ensure you follow the FAQ on connecting the API and Webhooks to fully enable all of Yabbers features.

Wistia Source - Yabber/Wistia or Elementor

In a previous FAQ we detailed how to apply customisations to an embedded Wistia Video. In order for Yabber and/or Wistia options to override the values defined in Elementor, you should navigate your way to the 'Settings' panel and define your preferred source via the 'Website' option.

Elementor or Wistia

Pictured: In order for Yabber and/or Wistia options to override the values defined in Elementor, you should navigate your way to the 'Settings' panel and define your preferred source via the 'Website' option. Using the Elementor option is one that is typically used by those that do no subscribe to Yabber in any way.

If the source is set to 'Elementor', all Yabber and Wistia options are ignored, and if set to Yabber, all Elementor options are ignored.

Using Yabber profiles and options are obviously preferred since you may globally update all videos as required, and options can be applied without messing around within your website.
