The version 0.8.9.2 release of the Yabber website plugin includes a new for field that accepts an ABN or Company Name and returns a list of matching results. Included by default in various ways in the 202410 version of the website framework, and integrated directly into our Formly Module, the tool should be used when it's important that the ABN be returned. The form was actually created to support nonconforming business finance but it obviously has applications in the conforming business or equipment space. This FAQ details how to use the form field as a standalone resource or as part of a standard form field.
ABN API: Results are returned from our own build of ABN data which was created for the purpose of building a simplified API that would integrate directly with a large number of applications. Usage of the API is detailed in our blog,
Data Accuracy: The data is free and open and every response of all types provides appropriate attribution. The data is updated every three days. The data is designed for marketing and CRM purposes and shouldn't be used for operational integrations.
The field accepts a partial of full company name or ABN. The resulting blind includes both the company name and ABN.
The Result
The result of the simplified form field is shown below. You can expect a short delay in the example form as we've throttled requests. Supply and ABN or Company Name - partial matches are obviously accepted.
We've included the form above with the shortcode of [abn_search], and that's it, and the shortcode is the basis of a 'hidden' page on your website. The shortcode permits the attributes of placeholder, show_abn, and style, with the latter applied to the secondary field applied when show_abn is used. The second 'formatted' ABN field may be applied anywhere by simply assigning the form field with an id of 'abn_formatted', or just 'abn' to return the ABN string without spaces (a number of values are returned in the response but these are the only two you'll ever use. The result of doing what I've just described will render something like this (it'll populate the ABN based on the form towards the top of the page). In our case, we've applied the readonly attribute.
If building a plugin that makes use of integrated BM function, use the array of formly functions, such as formly_text() in order to returned a formatted field with a custom style applied.
ABN Field in any Form
The ABN field may be included in any standard Formly form. When creating the form fields in Yabber, toggle the 'Enable ABN Field?' toggle to 'On'. In order to force this field - whether it's a free text field or one that is returned via the API - select 'Force ABN or Company Name?' to 'On'. When the form is rendered (and assuming the field was defined) it will be shown after the primary Name and Email fields but above the Phone Field.
In the case of some forms, such as the limited-release Nonconforming Business Finance form, the field is applied by default. Used in company with single-form SMS verification, calendar integration, and conditional redirects, it's an incredibly usable and powerful resource.
A Standalone ABN Search Page
Website frameworks are shipped with a standalone page within the Resources module that include a basic ABN Search. The page is hidden and not linked from anywhere until you determine it has a place and purpose. For any frameworks prior to this FAQ, simply include the shortcode of [abn_search show_abn="1"] in a new page.
